SDCA opens session on Digitalisation and Sustainability at SGES 2025
Our President Sergio Milesi had the honour of opening the session “Digitalisation & Data Centres: How can we connect technology and sustainability?” at the Swiss Green Economy Symposium 2025 in Winterthur.
Digitalisation is shaping every aspect of our lives – and with it comes a rapidly growing demand for data centres. These account for an estimated 2.5–3% of global CO₂ emissions. This duality presents both a challenge and an opportunity: ensuring that digitalisation and sustainability go hand in hand.
The session addressed key questions:
- How can digitalisation actively support climate protection?
- Where do we need smarter frameworks and stronger collaboration across business, science, politics, and civil society?
- How can data centres become an integral part of a sustainable energy system?
- How can we develop digital solutions that equally advance the environment, economy, and society?
At the Swiss Data Center Association (SDCA), we are committed to shaping this ecosystem – fostering innovation, efficiency, and resilience as the cornerstones of Switzerland’s future-proof digital infrastructure.
A sincere thank you to the organisers of SGES 2025 for making this important dialogue possible, and to all participants for the inspiring exchange.
